According to data released by the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology on May 8, 2024, mobile phone shipments in the domestic market in March 2024 were 21.38 million units, down 5.5% year-on-year. Among them, 5G mobile phone shipments reached 17.736 million units, an increase of 2.3%, and accounted for 83.0% of mobile phone shipments in the same period.
In addition, from the cumulative data from January to March 2024, the domestic mobile phone market shipments reached 67.415 million units, an increase of 7.4%. Among them, 5G mobile phone shipments accounted for the majority, reaching 56.433 million units, an increase of 9.6%, accounting for 83.7% of mobile phone shipments in the same period.
Meanwhile, smartphone shipments in March also reached 20.218 million units, down 6.2% year-on-year, accounting for 94.6% of mobile phone shipments in the same period. There were 29 new models of smart phones launched, down 31.0% year-on-year, accounting for 61.7% of the number of new models launched in the same period.
In addition, a total of 47 new domestic mobile phone models were listed in March 2024, down 2.1% year-on-year. Among them, there were 23 new models of 5G mobile phones, an increase of 15.0%, accounting for 48.9% of the number of new models listed in the same period.
These data show that despite the decline in the overall mobile phone market shipments, 5G mobile phone shipments have maintained growth and occupied the vast majority of the market share. At the same time, the smartphone market has also shown a certain downward trend, but it is still a major part of the mobile phone market.
